Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) is very common in clinical practice. Most infections are caused by virus and bacteria; the proportion caused by viruses is much greater. Antibiotics rarely benefit in URTI, still they are widely prescribed in the treatment of URTI. Studies indicate antibiotics do not hasten resolution of symptoms in URTI. In a clinical trial, Nirocil Tablets containing single ingredient Tamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri, Syn. Phyllanthus amarus), was proven to have beneficial role in the treatment of Non Bacterial Upper Respiratory Tract Disorders as compared to a placebo. Nirocil Syrup is indicated for recurrent URTI in pediatric population. In addition to Tamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri), Nirocil Syrup contains an important immunomodulatory herb Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia).
